  • dionysus67's rating of the film The Tree We Hurt

An honest and authentic attempt to capture childhood memories from a summer in Chios. Filmed with lyricism, depite its technical limitations, Avdeliodis' film uses effectively children's pranks, love and tears in order to reconstruct the life-world of adults too, particularly the sad destiny of widowed wives. It also pays tribute to Bresson's sparse aesthetic and has some moving, humurous set-pieces. Nostalgia, pure.
