This film could have benefited from some serious edits. At times, overwhelmingly beautiful. At others, excruciatingly boring. Sometimes tender, sometimes cheesy...overall, it's quite messy. But then again, so is life, and I suppose that's what this film is all about. It's worth a watch for that Erland Josephson cameo alone.
Albeit I notice the Spectator uproar, for those who did read the book of Milan Kundera, I will give you my sincere opinion, even though people still “insist” that movies can be the same as literature, which, obviously, cannot! The movie is incredibly well made: the direction of actors, the cast was well chosen; and the ADAPTATION is loyal to the book.
