Der Geiger von Florenz

Paul Czinner Germany, 1926

Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film The Violinist of Florence

Elisabeth Bergner dresses in boys' clothes and everyone automatically calls her "lad." Not a very convincing act, since clothes aside she looks just as she had before, and no one got confused then. A lot of homosexual and incestuous innuendo here that's rather amusing, yet I continue to think of this fellow Czinner after a few films now that he's very good without ever quite achieving excellence.
