The Viral Factor would be silly if it wasn't such a nuanced mix of popcorn action and fervor. Lam's brilliance isn't just in his action setpieces, as his weaving of drama within acute characterization, involving emotionally damaged and/or flawed characters, is exemplary. A very hit-and-miss director, at times he can be one of the finest action directors ever, even edging out Johnnie To in terms of action and emotion.
More hard-hitting action from Lam. Nicholas Tse is reliable as ever, the same can't be said about Jay Chou though. Thankfully the action is of his usual high standards & the plot (though convoluted) is pretty captivating. A solid thriller from one of Hong Kong's finest action directors.
