Ratings & Reviews

  1. dionysus67's rating of the film The Wedding

Unjustly disparaged for its culturally sealed references, Wajda's film may require some knowledge of Polish culture yet its visual form excels as Wajda shoots the first hour in plethorically bacchic movement and color-dense frames before he implodes the wedding's realism in the hallucinatory visions of its protagonists. With astounding tableaux he provides a quixotic cornucopia of a nation's collective unconscious.

  2. Louis Léonard's rating of the film The Wedding

  3. Andrew Miller's rating of the film The Wedding

I was obsessed with the play for a while-- saw this in the same year of Russian Ark, and there seemed to be subterranean connections, if only in my own thoughts.

  4. msmichel's rating of the film The Wedding

Adapted from a classic of Polish drama; a play by Stanislaw Wyspianski; Wajda's film 'Wedding' speaks to a generation of Poles whose understanding of their own history and identity adds a level of satisfaction and recognition in experiencing this film. For the art house fan outside that circle the film offers fewer rewards and can be difficult to interpret at times though its shooting style/conceit is a delight.

  5. chockablock's rating of the film The Wedding

    Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic.
