Andrzej Wajda Poland, 1973

dionysus67's rating of the film The Wedding

Unjustly disparaged for its culturally sealed references, Wajda's film may require some knowledge of Polish culture yet its visual form excels as Wajda shoots the first hour in plethorically bacchic movement and color-dense frames before he implodes the wedding's realism in the hallucinatory visions of its protagonists. With astounding tableaux he provides a quixotic cornucopia of a nation's collective unconscious.
