Despite the fact that it's TV movie quality, this is a far better adaptation of the original story than the remake. There are strange sexual and violent undertones going on here. This is about that primal fear of seeing something you shouldn't and having to pay the price.
2-3. This film owes everything to its atmosphere. The fact that it doesn't attempt to use music to build suspense for the most part is the key to why this film is able to create effective suspense where it wants to. That being said, it also suffers from being rather slow and loosely plotted; as well as from its somewhat broad characterization. Still, it's better than the remake of the same name.
