Our take

It’s no secret we love James Gray, an American auteur championed by cinephiles for carrying on the traditions of Coppola and Lumet, with an emotional richness all his own. This star-studded, authentic NYC crime opera is Gray at his best, in his first of many collaborations with Joaquin Phoenix.
