  1. Brotherdeacon's rating of the film The Young Girl

I'm impressed at this film's level of excellence resulting in an excoriating examination of oppressed women, and by way of extension, oppressed Mali and even all of Africa. The woman as metaphor for political Africa is mute, beautiful, fertile, raped, over-lorded by a tyrannical parent, shamed, disowned, and bursts with a fervor of tragic violence—a committed and horrid tale of the fight for self-determination.
