Ratings & Reviews

  1. Diderot's rating of the film Thirteen Women

A bit of a novelty item, perhaps. There's an interesting confrontation scene between Dunne and Loy about racism (which would play better if Loy's character and performance weren't objectively racist). There's also something beautiful about Kay Johnson's screen presence that makes me wish she'd have become a star. (I thought the same thing when I saw her in "American Madness".)

  2. SpacePirate's rating of the film Thirteen Women

A very odd film! Butchered ala Freaks, one can't really know what the preview audiences saw, but the remaining hour or so is filled with great lighting, cool intrigue, and an overall spookiness. Really its a revenge story, but its uniquely done, & you get to see Dunne & Loy, future stars, slumming their way through this B pic filled with lesbian undertones and racism plot lines. Truly a must see to believe. 3.5 stars
