I've never seen a movie that depicted men and boys with such emotional depth and allowed them to speak truthfully and vulnerably. All while being funny and devastating. You can truly see what goes into the making of hate and community in a way that feels neither judgmental nor glorifying.
On choosing sides, fitting in, uncompromising ideologies, counterculture, nationalism, and brainwashing. And on the split of skinheads along the political axis. And how countercultures go from being general cultural and political opposition to becoming radical, ideologically exclusive groups. And on the rise of Neo fascism due to working class dissatisfaction. And on the ignorance towards the effects of colonisation
How outcasts and lost souls find solace in mutual hate but also in a deep friendship with each other. The acting by virtual unknows are excellent, but Stephen Graham stand out as the agressive and sad Combo that takes out his hate on anyone who don't have the same opinions and background as himself. Makes me wanna see all the sequels and TV-miniseries too. Is it much to hope for that I will see them soon too?
Wow, just wow. This film hits me just as hard (if not harder!) every single time I watch it. The story of a young boy in Thatcher-era England who's only wish is to find his place in the world, but ends up hanging around the wrong crowd. Definitely as poignant and relevant a tale as ever. Absolutely amazing performances, sound-track, writing and cinematography throughout. Can't recommend enough!
Ancak This Is England'ın temelleri malesef çok saçma yerlere atılıyor.
