Pleasantly rewarding as it unravels. At first it seems to have all the hangups and cringe-worthy racist touches of a macho action flick but somewhere around the half-way mark a subtle layer of complications emerges. It's still somewhat action packed and hollywoody but there's a nuance of conscience that surprises at the end.
David O. Russell has reinvented himself as a Scorsese-fueled ensemble director as of recently, but "Three Kings" remains his masterpiece. A visually groundbreaking masterwork that capped off the 90's in what is arguably still the best year for cinema in the last 25 years.
