Tease this out & you get a pastiche of General della Rovere, Le Trou & a host of well-known antecedents. The approach is, sadly, farcical, slapsticky: a hyperbolic mess. Let's grant, though, it had prescience, given what it's become: popular, canonical. The Greek lead is an everyman a la Ernest Borgnine w/ the adroitness of a Buster Keaton. If that's your thing, sure, but that's the culture industry for you.
