Good film, though not up to the original

Tokyo Story remake, slightly better than the original.

  3. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Tokyo Family

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose? Well, there's that. But I suspect that old Yamada's desire to make a loose remake of Tokyo Story - aside from the the homage to his master - is just to show the Japanese family sixty years on. Ozu depicted the dying of tradition, Yamada depicts a world where tradition's long gone. The old folk in this film were fresh-faced youths in 1953. He even found a worthy Setsuko Hara!

  6. Carlos Filipe Freitas's rating of the film Tokyo Family

Yamada’s contemporary Tokyo family, at least, remembers us how simple a film can be. Full Review: http://alwayswatchgoodmovies.blogspot.com/2014/01/tokyo-family-2013.html

  8. Verimage's rating of the film Tokyo Family

It's sadly symptomatic that stories about basic family values are almost never filmed in the "western" cultures ... Nothing more then rare beautiful storytelling ...
