  • José Neves's rating of the film Tonight or Never

After and contemporary of Schroeter's early theatrical expressionism, in his first feature film Schmid follows the same principle of artifice's derision through a revolutionary inventiveness. The exposed stage is its own "naturalism", opposed to the rules of the general mimetic realism, far more vital than that commonplace . In the next film, "La Paloma", he will ascend, literally, to the sky.
