watched three episodes, began to rewatch....this is DARK, darker than a moonless\starless sky southern gothic stuff...this isn't bingeable, however, as the elements all come together to form a major downer....a more emotionally mature, if not as visually arresting, entry into the "man is the cruelest animal" (it's poster tagline) genre than movies like Seven or Hannibal's exploits (no pun intended)...
Glad they are putting mini series and shows on here since they’ve been eclipsing films for last 10 years. This is a particular amazing example of television “film”making. All episodes wonderfully directed by fuku with episode 3 being the true stand out. Also one the greatest written shows ever. It may have not stuck the landing if you were expecting silence of the lambs but it wasn’t that. It was a bromance
Invented what a first season of television should be. Cary Joji Fukunaga is a true director. So manly, that tracking shot scene was so hot. omg. Matthew McConaughey is phenomenal. I kept thinking it was going to get more supernatural, but it was plenty tonal enough. The ending was dizzying, dark, and graceful.
"If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward then, brother, that person is a piece of shit. And I’d like to get as many of them out in the open as possible. You gotta get together and tell yourself stories that violate every law of the universe just to get through the goddamn day? What’s that say about your reality?"
