It's not necessary to speak French to understand this film about solitude like that of Robinson Crusoe. One can feel one's way through each scene. What would I do, feel, think, see, want? How would I descend into the hermit's madness? It's archetypal--John the Baptist or Francis of Assisi. One may long for solitude, but not this extreme, the polar opposite to our world. Yet this film puts life into perspective.
