Ratings & Reviews

  1. Hatari's rating of the film Tunneling the English Channel

Cinema as a series of intricate tableaux. A formative vision.

  2. Chris_Parker's rating of the film Tunneling the English Channel

This greatest of all of Méliés' films.

  3. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film Tunneling the English Channel

  4. Dale Wittig's rating of the film Tunneling the English Channel

Within a hundred years Melies' fantasy would be made real, not as he imagined it (one may certainly wish it were so) though the impetus was there. The film functions as more than mere spectacle: there is a sense of community displayed here, a joy in human activity and interaction that transcends the sort of commercial concerns that one is likely to see in the motivations behind the construction of the actual Chunnel.

  5. Jack Lineman's rating of the film Tunneling the English Channel

If there was better prints of this out there it would be one of Méliès' most famous films. I also love that moment when King Edward VII and President Armand Fallières shake hands across the channel.
