Our take

The ideal of the Midwestern nuclear family gets all screwy in Michael Almereyda’s delightfully strange debut, starring the dashing Dylan McDermott in an early-career standout role. A tasty slice of weird Americana, completed with Norman Rockwell-style compositions and a William S. Burroughs cameo.
