Two anti-heroes sent to recover white children abducted by Comanches come back with a murderous boy and a young Mexican woman. Complex material handled by John Ford who didn't ask John Wayne to play in this film. I understand why. White characters like to dance and lynch. Recommended.
Rather dull and plodding retread of THE SEARCHERS, minus John Wayne's excoriating vengeance and hate-fuelled fury. Tonally the film doesn't know whether to be comic or cruel and ends up being neither. Widmark and Stewart generally look completed unsettled by the wafer thin nature of their roles, which occasionally seem to get blurred within the drab script work. Ford apparently didn't want to make the film. It shows.
one of Ford's worst films, Two Rode Together is basically a badly done rip-off of The Searchers, badly acted, sometimes very racist and with shifts of tone in Ford's worst way. the colour is beautiful (as it always was in his movies) and there are some good moments (visually) but overall it's just a dumb film that raises important questions and gives poor answers.
