Ratings & Reviews

  1. VincentVendetta's rating of the film Under the Cherry Moon

Like Spike Lee would do six years later with Malcolm X, Prince imagines black culture in the aesthetics of Hollywood's Golden Age. Michael Ballhaus comes back to the French castles with a vengeance, the complete opposite of Last Year at Marienbad and yet just as playful.

  2. Maribou's rating of the film Under the Cherry Moon

Prince's 2nd vanity project is a curious buddy movie about 2 gigolos on the make until one falls for the mark. Ballhaus's B&W photography sparkles in the French sunshine, the soundtrack is Prince at the top of his game, the wardrobe dept. shoot for the stars but the plot, script & acting are juvenile. Kristin Scott Thomas is terrible and Prince's flirting & the to-&-fro with Jerome Benton can't stop the film sinking

  3. roseros's rating of the film Under the Cherry Moon

Kristin Scott Thomas giving major YSL vibes. The garishness of an 80s color palette is subdued by the choice to shoot in bw, very Helmut Newton, very classic. Love love love.

  4. ExperimentoFilm's rating of the film Under the Cherry Moon

Lubitsch touch screwball + both versions of BREATHLESS + Ballhaus b&w + Prince camp =

  5. Raymond Likes Subtitles's rating of the film Under the Cherry Moon

Ironically it's the professional actors who overact .Stephen Berkov chews the scenery. Prince and Jerome Benton have an easy charm and work well together. The soundtrack is great and works well with in the context of the film. Also this was Keistin Scott Thomas' first movie.
