Ann, daughter of Professor Hamilton, falls in love with Alan Garroway, an up and coming inventor. She goes to live with him in Washington, where she discovers that this irreproachable man is hiding a mysterious past. Karl Freund’s “expressionist” photography sets the tone of this dark melodrama.
