Ratings & Reviews

  1. Ethan's rating of the film Vagabond

Sandrine Bonnaire is nothing short of amazing in this incredible picture from the masterful Agnes Varda. This film is a true work of beauty and it has a certain liberating feel and energy that most films fail to measure up to. Varda's camera not only captures images, it also breathes life into the cinema.

This site needs a lot more films of this quality. Fantastic.

  4. 自決 9 6's rating of the film Vagabond

A wordly, earthy tale. Mona is pure surface, pure action, her skin is no different from the soil and the dirt. When she eats, there's only pure hunger, no gluttony. When she kisses, there's nothing beneath the kiss. Everything is just what it seems to be. Masterpiece.

  5. Alexandre's rating of the film Vagabond

Quem busca a liberdade total encontra também a solidão total.

  6. Stefan Drees's rating of the film Vagabond

Varda's narration not only appeals through the heartbreaking story (which she tells us without sentimental diversions but embedded in a documentary-like progression) but also through the masterly cinematography: Each shot, each frame is a little gem, in different ways connected with other shots.

  7. Victor Gonzalez's rating of the film Vagabond

Varda likes to play with the tragic limits of freedom. Many interesting notions. A great film.

  8. Aardsy's rating of the film Vagabond

If I had the right look.

  9. smndvdcl's rating of the film Vagabond

Went to a screening earlier this evening. I always liked Cleo From 5 to 7 but I am now truly an Agnes Varda convert. This is a masterpiece.

  10. ebabehh's rating of the film Vagabond

Composed, like the Savage Detectives, as a series of detached testimonials and intersecting poetic vignettes centering around the wandering (or "withering") young, beautiful, and untethered Mona. What does she really desire? Sex, grass? I suspected, deep down, a combination of love and freedom, which, out of all of the characters "in this world for you without arms," only Assouna came close to fulfilling.

  12. dokuz10's rating of the film Vagabond

Mona is not a drifter, rebel or someone who is trying to make a point against the "system" as the philosopher shepherd says. She is trying to escape herself and the choices she made. She is trying to escape people by finding worse characters in her travel. The book-end style is fitting for this film. I do enjoy when the director is also the editor. Brilliant storytelling by Agnès Varda.

  13. Mtume Gant's rating of the film Vagabond

“Why did you drop out?” “Champagne on the road is better.” No lines better describes Varda’s masterwork. It’s truly a film all it’s own that only she can do.

  14. hubertguillaud's rating of the film Vagabond

  15. O...'s rating of the film Vagabond

Melancólica. Triste.

  16. Didonne's rating of the film Vagabond

  17. FISCHER's rating of the film Vagabond

  18. Jdsarmientoburgos's rating of the film Vagabond

Varda is perhaps the most rejoiced female director, and one would understand why after viewing Vagabond. Story of a young girl that hitchhikes form place to place, doing what she wants and refusing to take any responsibilities. Varda’s perspective is what makes it a stand out film.

  19. Victor Morosoff's rating of the film Vagabond

  20. Diderot's rating of the film Vagabond

One of the greatest films ever made, with one of the greatest performances of one of the greatest characters. It remains the masterpiece of Varda's fiction work, and I've rarely loved a character more than Bonnaire's Mona.

  21. darioscha's rating of the film Vagabond

  23. Rocío En Ameca's rating of the film Vagabond

  24. ville_juan's rating of the film Vagabond
