The record-breaking Kickstarter demonstrates Veronica's loyal following, but her creators have forgotten her strengths. It's not the CW soap opera drivel. The engulfing darkness of Neptune's class divide and corruption is necessary for Veronica's deflecting wit to spark like flint striking rock. The adult Mars is ready for grittier cases and sleuthing challenges than she was given here. Sequel? Up the ante please.
One of those bittersweet movies, but then again if you've followed the series you know VMars always is. All of the damaged characters you love from the series are once again tangled in cases and conflicts just to find out that they are always who they've been. I would be very happy if there are sequels as there are still many things left unanswered and/or unresolved (it was said that there'll be VMars 2).
... nothing more than a tedious investigation that works more like an episodic joke set up with teenage spirit, rather than the essential detective thriller it aimed to be. Review: http://alwayswatchgoodmovies.blogspot.com/2014/03/veronica-mars-2014.html
As a huge fan of the series, the movie turns out to be a solid if unremarkable continuation. I think the first third felt a little out of spirit with the original series, but when it got into the pulpy plot and allowed the old characters to breathe, it was an explosion of nostalgia with sardonic wit and humour. In the end, it is hard to shake the feeling this would not rank as one of the highlights of the series.
