Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film Villa Amalia

  2. Adam M's rating of the film Villa Amalia

Slow, French psychodrama is only worth it when there's actual drama on hand. This film would be unwatchable without Huppert.

  3. Allison Rung's rating of the film Villa Amalia

Jacquot makes a lot, too much, of Huppert's character's physical exertion – scaling Mediterranean cliffs, swimming to the point of collapse, dragging trash bags. Similar cinematic workouts (e.g. laps swum by Bill Murray in LT or Blanchett in Little Fish) were light metaphors, while Huppert's thrashings here (no fault of her own) have no clear determinant. I mean, a break-up. But too much other stuff was going on.

  4. riraru's rating of the film Villa Amalia

  5. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film Villa Amalia

  6. Seth Heywood's rating of the film Villa Amalia

This is for the free-thinker, the free-spirited. Fed-up with life? Feel like you need to make some radical changes right this second? This film will inspire you greatly. It reminds us that despite laws and social expectations we ultimately control our our own lives simply through choices we make - it's that simple. If you are unhappy with something, make the choice that will change it and that's all there is to it.

  7. Samuel Donath's rating of the film Villa Amalia

I see a lot of myself in this film. Scary how much actually.
