There's a gap between what it thinks it is, and what I perceive. Especially with all the sound effects. Someone went a little crazy with the Foley.
This short film was very beautiful. With no dialogue just visuals and detailed camera shots the film told a story through the villa Empain and its structure itself. The long and trying history of its existence is sad how mistreated the villa was used. While it had a rough history its beauty cannot be denied, with very spacious open halls, surrounded by tall trees it is truly a special place that should be preserved.
Poetic. In particular, the use of sound, both natural and added, aids the narrative and imagery so well.
It's a film where you have to understand history, events, and context first so that this film is not only in two eyes and two ears. "Villa Empain," however, is a study of architects, ideas, and dreams of how a materialistic changes a fundamentalist from the material itself. Yes, it's one of those movies.
By wearing different lenses you can walk into this Villa and forget around your surroundings. This short makes a point how art and its creative and regenerative soul goes beyond time, wars and ignorance.
I'm not sure that scaring the audience with terrible and super-loud sounds of rotating film or scratching concrete was meant to be. A beautiful visual story ruined by awful sound production.
