It's really 3.5 but Emanuelle Devos' performance is absolutely jaw dropping.

  6. Jack Hoehn's rating of the film Violette

The film around Emmanuelle Devos's performance is little more than serviceable but with a performance like that servicable does the trick just fine!

  7. mllevinteuil's rating of the film Violette

Un si mauvais film pour une si grande écrivaine. Triste.

  8. José Neves's rating of the film Violette

There is Cinema in the last two shots, and also in a vertical pan from Devos to a tree and vice-versa (as if Straub-Huillet were an unlikely reminiscence), which is why this rather vulgar biopic is a little bit more than an ordinary "cinema du papa" example. And Devos is no ordinary girl.

  9. Jorge Mourinha's rating of the film Violette

You can't really be friends with Violette. http://theflickeringwall.blogspot.com/2014/07/violette.html

  10. Carlos Filipe Freitas's rating of the film Violette

The flickering literary path, frontal personality, and complex relationships of feminist novelist Violette Leduc (1907-1972), known for writing about sex and abortion as never before. (3.5 stars)

  11. msmichel's rating of the film Violette

Emmanuelle Devos is the show here with her amazing portrait of novelist Violette Leduc. Leduc who seems eclipsed by Simone de Beauvoir in time is captured in all her manic, self obsessed glory surrounded by those whose legacies have lasted so much longer than her own. Many similar biopics have come from France over the years and this is an adequate but not exactly overwhelming one. If you love Devos...

  12. Corriel's rating of the film Violette

Not a great film but I found its biopical aspect interesting as it depicts the life and works of Violette Leduc.
