3.7 stars. Pythonesque Patocki! Thompson and Ruiz describe Ruiz's style as "casually absurd"... I think Ruiz's magic trick is that formally, structurally and ideologically-aesthetically he is rigorously absurd (almost to the point of monomania) but somehow through this means he arrives at a tone which is casually absurd! This one was a little dense for me~ Gods! the man was a genius wizard.
It is difficult to unravel a 22 minute film based on a written work by the Polish writer Jan Patocki, if you have not read it. My detailed review of this notable film that ends with the words "I dreamt I was a negro, " is at http://imdb.com/title/tt0362294/reviews-1.
