This movie became such a mess when it didn't have to be. It went from family drama to fucking supercharged Rocky like story. So uneven. Hardy is good but underused when it comes to his range, Nolte is the strongest in this. One of his best, but be cant save the car crash
Either overcomplicates or underestimates the drama for it to err on the side of melodrama, but still its emotion simmers enough, and boils in the scenes with Nolte. Like 2010's The Fighter, O'Connor doesn't show as much intensity or flair in the fisticuffs sequences, as their photography is square pegged, while the editing is samey. Also, the leisurely pace is too flat-footed, where it should float like a butterfly.
I had this on my radar because of Tom Hardy; thought satisfaction is guaranteed. But this is not the case. 'Warrior' is a very simple, much predictable & clichéd movie. Nothing new; same old story: the underdog is the hero! You can make it, if you really want it etc. etc. Very disappointing & boring, too.
A fighting movie with a story, character depth, and raw emotion. Rocky-esque. Hardy and Nolte are power houses and Edgerton is as gripping and raw as I've seen him. The story is completely implausible but it doesn't seem that way when watching bc you're caught up in the performances and the well choreographed action. Absolutely loved it.
