Ratings & Reviews

  1. SafeStanding's rating of the film West

The solid acting is the films strong point but the storyline is it's weakness. It tries to do too much and loses itself in the espionage angle. Superb camerawork and the intense atmosphere of the Cold War East still makes this an interesting watch.

  2. nouvelle vague 1960's rating of the film West

"West" is an interesting film about a mother and her young son.Who after the death of her husband, decided to cross the Berlin Wall and move from East to West Germany.Set during the Cold War period of the 1970's,It effectively depicts the paranoia of the time. However, the problem is it doesn't know if its supposed to be an espionage film,or the story of a woman and her child, trying to fit into the unfamiliar West.

  3. Draughtsman Without Contract's rating of the film West

Oddly frustrating. Works well when dealing with the indignities and prejudices of the migrant experience; much less so when it tries to move into espionage.

  4. Violins By Night's rating of the film West

Solid acting aside, West suffers from trying too hard and ultimately asks more questions than it answers.

  5. Stephane Tanaka's rating of the film West
