Lacking the forcedness of the same year's Maggie, and the elongation of Extinction, this Danish family drama/zombie film mostly keeps the zombies offscreen and a near mystery, so the narrative can evolve without the horror tropes. It interestingly shows the entirety of a societal collapse through the families eyes, with enough tension and story nuance to be engaging until the climax that explodes in violence.
Why is that that most zombie films must feature annoying, clueless characters who make the situation worse? How is that possible that they live in a reality where horror films do not exist, and so they make every possible mistake in the book half a century after Night of the Living Dead? Inexcusable.
