Somewhere here is a good film noir set to break out. This one has two masculine fetales instead of a female one but the heroine is ruined by bland narration and a miscast role. Maybe IT had worked with the heroine cast as the murder victim and vice versa? Bacon and Firth are excellent though and the sex has it’s power which the main whodunit hadn’t.
An intriguing mystery with some moments of quite entertaining dialogue. The lighting in this made it seem like everything had sort of a strange, almost dreamlike (or feverish more like) shine or glow to it. That, combined with Alison Lohman's monologues really set a strange tone to this film. All in all it was quite alright, albeit a bit forgettable.
When I watched this late one night on BBC1 a few years ago, I couldn't understand that the synopsis was real and that Colin Firth would be in this. At least the double act stuff didn't make me cringe too much. Contains the most hilarious scene where someone tries to make a threesome happen. It's never going to happen.
