Thomas Haden Church offers his best performance since 'Sideways' with this near solo effort regarding a man hiding deep in the woods in Northern Quebec confronting his own remorse and guilt. It's a man vs himself and a man vs the elements story but despite a stellar first half runs out of story. Logic gaps and plot holes abound but don't take away from that brilliant performance.
A masterful meditation on guilt and loneliness, relayed through a powerful performance by Haden Church as the listless fugitive who is slowly losing his grasp on reality. The cinematography was particularly stunning, especially during the late night snow storms and twilight forest landscapes. I believe this was Hoss-Desmarais' first feature, and what a debut it was.
