Well paced documentary from Joe Berlinger (Paradise Lost) that reveals levels of corruption and lies while not taking away the guilt of the crimes that Bulger was convicted on. Watched in preparation for 'Black Mass' to learn about Bulger but this film is more about the trial then a background on Boston organized crime history.
A documentary not exactly filled with excitement, but its slightly more interesting when you look at it in the context in which Whitey Bulger was the basis for Frank Costello in The Departed. Whitey completely de-glamorizes organized crime by showing the faces of those directly affected. Not a bad watch but there's no sugar coating whatsoever to help get it down.
