Extremely idiosyncratic film, slow pace, scarce dialogue, aimless wandering in multicultural and decadent Madrid at night. It's for sure allegoric at times but its symbolism seem out of place, the characters' motives remain in the dark, the performances are frozen. Embarrassingly awkward movie that reminded me of Roy Andersson. Maybe it implies a bigger drama than that i felt it was the case. 4,5/10
Underwhelming tale concerning a middle aged woman tired of the mundane life of being a wife and esthetician as well as dealing with a never ending ringing in her ears who one night packs a suitcase and disappears into the night. What she finds is just another kind of mundane. Carmen Machi is game for the role the script just never goes anywhere.
Why watch ALMODOVAR, his exuberance, his characters that make the heart beat, his stories full of life, laughter & tears, when there's REBOLLO's dull characters, slow action & minimalist story?
A film so taut and fine-tuned, when woman is united with piano, the music that's made blooms like a flower through cement. It's rare to see movies this dehiscent, where the slightest aberrations from the main character--being pulled along in an excited cab, remaining in spaces she's emptied, confronted with walk-on characters that take her place--insist on cinema's radical suddenness & the power of its space.
