Critics reviews

As a laundress who gets her chance at the spotlight with a little help from her supposed brother/object of her affection, Baker is a phenomenal presence — mugging for the camera, winking at us, playing up the humor in delightfully unpredictable ways. Her singing is marvelous, her dancing so loose and free that you start to forget the plot and just lose yourself in her moves.
