Avis des critiques

A Tale of Two Cities has nothing to do with Christmas, but the 1935 film of it does end with a grand instrumental rendition of “O Come All Ye Faithful.” It accompanies the final Crucible-like, noble sacrifice of alcoholic lawyer Sydney Carton, here played by soulful Ronald Colman, for the aristocratic Charles Darnay. After he discovers his nobility and Dickens’s famous closing dialogue is spoken… the craning camera rises like an eagle up the guillotine and into the heavens beyond.
