The month of May seems to be warmer and gloomier than previous years in a small town. Everyone seems to be happy despite their small worries. However, this mood is a little disturbed by the arrival of director Muzaffer, who has decided to shoot a film in the town where he spent his childhood.

This self-reflexive mood piece about a director’s return home is Ceylan’s minimalist gem with a painterly eye for the rural landscape. Shot with amateur actors including Ceylan’s family members, this Chekhovian story is an introspective look at cinema, the artistic process, and the notion of home.
