Dragged Across Concrete Réalisé par S. Craig Zahler
As irksome and obnoxious as such impulses may be, a measure of aggravation seems acceptable when faced with Zahler’s talents—for whatever one might make of his politics, his skills as a filmmaker are considerable.

It’s overly patient, which is half the reason the film so frequently traipses into tedium (another marker of his work). But when he scores, he scores.

Instead of imagining how heartless — or “cool” — mankind can be, Zahler looks for hidden virtues in each situation, no matter how bizarre. Ridgeman, Lurasetti, and Slim shift between being foes and allies. Dare I say, Zahler dramatizes what, in classic Westerns and crime films, used to be considered their Americanness.

  • Michael H. CLAES's rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

Fatalistic & powerful noir flick, between Make my Day & Drive. As in the Red Circle, the protagonists end up in a central point of atonement or redemption. Music by inspired director-screenwriter ZAHLER == Polar sombre, fataliste & puissant, entre Dirty Harry & Drive. Comme dans le Cercle Rouge les protagonistes finissent en 1 point central d'expiation ou rédemption. Musique par ZAHLER, réalisateur-scénariste inspiré

  • Daniel S.'s rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

Nihilistic cop movie with, in my opinion, an unsatisfying ending considering the quality of this film. But I'll see it again to make up my mind. As it is, ' Dragged across Concrete ' is a third superior effort in a row for Craig S. Zahler. This director is the best thing the US have brought us since Carpenter and Spielberg. Highly recommended.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

    S. Craig Zahler's latest is a sprawling, "Jackie Brown"-esque ensemble piece; although the script was completed in 2015, it's not difficult to read the film's two leads as bad lieutenants for the Trump era. The movie is at its best when focusing on Gibson and Vaughn's scrappy chemistry, particularly when Zahler lingers on the duo's stakeouts so long you can practically smell the fast food stinking up their car.

  • Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

It's almost 3 hours long, yet I never felt bored and didn’t once glance at the clock. Dragged is strangely hypnotic, with beautiful compositions reminiscent of Kurosawa, grabbing the attention, meriting dissection. There’s also long, mundane conversations, which blend into one another, as Zahler avoids one climax after the next. This could easily have been 90 minutes, but he's not interested in highlights. • Nicholas Gregory's rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

Zahler still doesn’t block a scene properly. The coverage is also one of the worst I have seen in a film to date. His static and elongated camera shots, with minimal editing and motionless camera and actor movement, only makes it ugly and the energy of its already-lethargic plot as passive as can be. It’s obviously Zahler’s style by now, but it makes me wonder if he was asleep in film school like I am in his films.

  • Z's rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

To watch this picture is to put yourself in the hands of a gifted director who knows exactly how to craft a story visually. The fraught tension in the film stretches out to almost unbearable lengths as Zahler and his talented crew keep tightening the screws on the plot. One of the best crime dramas of this or any other year. Zahler's work is in the same league as that of Michael Mann, Walter Hill and Sam Peckinpah.

  • saitosouta's rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

In the time expanded to the zen-like eternity, dickhead dudes talk, talk, blast the gun and eviscerate the fucking blood and guts. Dir. Zahler's unbelievably magnanimous bovineness, in "Dragged Across Concrete", turns into rambanctious crudity and ultra-violent holiness, which makes me believe this is Zahler's 20th film. This is true Slow Violent Cinema masterpiece, but I can't say it is also for not Zahler fanatics.

  • Zachary T.'s rating of the film Dragged Across Concrete

Honour among thieves. Zahler channels Elmore Leonard, “Prince of the City” and “Pulp Fiction” in a sprawling, riveting ensemble piece that customarily pits fragile alliances of desperate outsiders against absolute evil. The Hammett dialogue is dry and distinguished; Kittles and Gibson are both fantastic.
