Alex Honnold (aged 32 on the day in question, 3 June 2017) climbs the sheer face of El Capitan, a ravishing and forbidding peak in Yosemite National Park in California. It is nearly 3,000 feet in height, awesome to behold, and impossible to contemplate as something you or I might try, or climb.
