Some great gore, the editing is an absolute mess even though it's somewhat innovative in a slasher film context. The killers neurosis, fetishes, & insecurities are incredibly generic and make for a boring character overall. That evil kid was quite good
the inability of a child to process the "activities" of adults leads to the grown man being unable to ever become anything more than a shell of what has been formed by his actions as a child; an existence dedicated solely to destruction. the futility of morality in the face of determined annihilation.
The mother is clearly regretting her kin. If only she could run away from it all with her new sailor boy. Nightmare is a grim slasher that unnerves whether or not the brutal murders get you because of its centering on children. One of my favorites. Not meant for everyone, but what is? The look of it sort of speaks to me. I find it evil in the best of ways. The boathouse is one example. Dark stuff.
Ridiculous slasher film that is sleazy (in a good way) and poorly filmed, acted, written, and directed. But it's also a laugh riot and has some decent gore scenes (NOT by Tom Savini). The girl who played the babysitter kept cracking me up with her lack of emotion when she's supposed to be frightened, haha.
