Shazam! Réalisé par David F. Sandberg
The movies don’t lack for superhero stories that deal with the angst and isolation of young people who’re radically different from those around them. But few of them are quite like David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!, which foregrounds the rush of bafflement and elation that grips a down-and-out child who’s suddenly given the power of a god, potentially allowing him to bypass all of the pitfalls and anxieties of adolescence.

The movie, which was written by Henry Gayden and directed by David F. Sandberg, is almost goofy to a fault, its reflexive demythologizing riding the edge of glib parody—at times it’s a notch away from a Saturday Night Live sketch. But it gives the character a range of emotions that superhero movies rarely get to indulge, since even the entries that branch off can’t stray too far from the main stem.

The bright, popping red of the superhero costume in “Shazam!” is an early warning sign, as obvious as a matador’s cape, that the dreary and crepuscular have given way to something less self-serious and end-of-the-world grim. It’s a nice change of pace for a big-screen mega-comic, if not a revolutionary shift.

Ce que vous en pensez

  • Palmat's rating of the film Shazam!

Excellent movie that embraces the fun and silly aspects of a superhero´s journey and twists it around with a juvenile perspective. The casting is perfect and is the narrative drive and production design follows suit. As always, the villain could have been better utilized and explored but you can´t get everything I guess. The plot might not reinvent the genre ut it sure as hell keeps it fun and kinda fresh.

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Shazam!

Yes, I am giving Shazam! 5 stars. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it, I had very low expectations. The moral of the film is very fascinating to me because it goes so against the inherent selfishness & ego ingrained in the heroes of the genre, as most evident in its finale. This is the rare superhero film that isn't Nietzschean in its heroics. Few blockbusters have as much heart as this one. Best DCEU movie so far

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Shazam!

I realize I'm in the minority, but I'll happily take the patient storytelling and cinematic verve of the WB's comic book films over yearly installments of MCU's ongoing TV movie. "Shazam" is funny and heartfelt in the tradition of Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy, and the third act cleverly subverts the Nietzschean power fantasy of the genre by making literal the notion that Billy Batson's true super power is his family.

  • Steve Pulaski's rating of the film Shazam!

One thing I'm not sure I've mentioned about the DCEU is that, at this point, I like how singular most of the films have been. I've gotten exhausted by every new Marvel film's desire to tangle its narrative in order to intersect with other installments. "Shazam!" isn't *yet* concerned by trying to fit into a larger puzzle. It's very well-paced, pleasant, not incessant, with its comedy, and Levi plays a great hero.

  • Andhika Eka Buana's rating of the film Shazam!

Much, much closer to the spirits of Christmas movies the likes of ELF and JINGLE ALL THE WAY than to its superheroes counterparts, SHAZAM! gives DC a whole new lease on the promise of a well-manifested universe. I am in for a Justice League reboot that willing to make this as an entry point. David Sandberg fantastic horror resume also works really well here.

  • Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film Shazam!

Anyone else thinking “if only I could get just one more Mark Strong taking off his shades moment”?

  • Janit's rating of the film Shazam!

An absolute delight! Now you see that good superhero movies ain't have to be so depressing all the time.

  • Ethan's rating of the film Shazam!

This is the most fun I've ever had with a comic book movie. It's a film that doesn't take itself seriously and is fully aware of the absurdity of the material and at the same time brings a lot of heart to this comic book tale. Truly a breath of fresh air from the usual fare and with good performances from all this is definitely a good time at the cinema.
