Rithy Panh’s film portrays his memories of living in a Khmer Rouge labor camp. Realizing he didn’t have any photographs that might help to paint a picture of the horrors of genocide, he used ceramic figures to depict his lost childhood while providing eloquent testimony to his family’s tragedy.
