Avis des critiques

It is the very embodiment of camp, and you should always reject that notion that camp means “so bad it’s good.” In fact, looking at Rocky Horror, it strikes me that the people behind the camera didn’t screw up, but made the movie they wanted to make in their own stoned, self-pleasing way, even if the traditions it spawned were undoubtedly beyond their wildest dreams.

Is The Rocky Horror Picture Show any good? As a record of this peculiar cultural artefact, certainly… Sharman’s expanded cinematic scope and the production circumstances allowed him to directly evoke the glory days of British cinefantastique, particularly Hammer horror, which was in its death throes at the time.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Rocky Horror Picture Show cult is the extent to which it evokes and weirdly resurrects, as if in a haunted house, a form of cinema as community that once flourished in the U.S., when Hollywood was still in its heyday. At that time, going to the cinema was automatically a social event, a night at the movies, even a collective form of self-expression — a moment when one felt proud rather than embarrassed to be sitting next to other people in the dark.
