I really love Agnes Varda. She plays with the magic of cinema here and also with love lost as represented by the disappearing lion and young man however there is always a surprise around the corner. When one life chapter ends another begins ;-)
Charming, witty, dextrous and delightfully playful short. Wonderful mix of styles from comedy to surreal and experimental. Cinema at its most joyous and self-celebratory. A real gem, highly recommended.
A very playful 10 minutes by the one and only Agnes Varda, one of the original members of the French New Wave (Nouvelle Vague). Apparently this statue was removed temporarily for cleaning, and Varda took advantage of the opportunity to make this charming short film, which also stars Varda's cat.
Very slight for a Varda short but with the usual amount of wit and whimsy. Julie Depardieu makes an impression as a clairvoyant in training but the best moment has to be the introduction of Lazurus who works at the catacombs!
