États-Unis, 2015

Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s head by her rascal of a dad that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo – enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment…

Its lack of craft is connected to its lack of basic credibility. The same self-satisfied power-gaming that motivates this mogul to round up Matthew Broderick, Marv Albert, and Chris Evert for cameos just because also accounts for storytelling lapses both small and large. Gripe all you like about Trainwreck’s pat, happy ending and wobbly sexual politics—they’re both #problematic—but the biggest problem here is the unchecked laziness of a filmmaker in his full, undisciplined glory.

Some dips into celebrity absurdism at the end notwithstanding (I am totally fine with LeBron James’ role though), the movie worked very well as a credible, intelligent 21st century rom-com.

It’s often said that comedy doesn’t travel, but maybe it’s truer to say that one country’s neuroses (which are often the fuel for comedy) don’t translate to another. Trainwreck comes garlanded with rave reviews from the States, yet it’s likely to strike local audiences as not just unfunny but exotic, a film from a parallel world that’s like our own yet somehow elusive.

  • Daniel Roque's rating of the film Trainwreck

Come on, you are one of the top comedians of today; you've casted Tilda Swinton, Brie Larson, Ezra Miller, everyone from SNL, Daniel Radcliffe and a bunch of dogs; but you still make a mediocre romantic-comedy female version of every single gigolo movie cliché? Why, Amy Schumer, why?

  • Rafael Zen's rating of the film Trainwreck

This is a very funny act by Amy Schumer and the other characters are keeping up as well. Apatow has a very fresh sense of comedy, so Trainwreck is another sarcastic trip to young-adult life - I just think it should not go cliche at the final part: one thing breaking its freshness is trying to mend a very fucked up girl's saga with a traditional blockbuster romantic ending. At the end I wish this film had more balls.

  • Duncan Gray's rating of the film Trainwreck

Dissed by people who wouldn't like it even if it stuck to its gun, and shunned by Amy Schumer fans who feel (not wrongly) that throwing away her booze and going all cheerleader qualifies as selling out, Trainwreck is actually not a bad movie. There are huge, unpleasant concessions to genre norms at the end, but the path there revitalizes Apatow and provides a fresh burst of femme-centered comedy. I'll take it.

  • Lucas Granero's rating of the film Trainwreck

Mal, Judd.

  • Palmat's rating of the film Trainwreck

A solid romantic comedy with a bit of bite and sharpness in the form of Ms Schumer. The story is an old hat to say the least but Schumer, who wrote the movie, keeps things fresh enough. Unfortunately this movie does not let Schumer to go all in and she is toned down compared to her other endeavours which is a shame. And the movie is too long with a running time just over two hours. Still a good watch.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Trainwreck

There's a compelling 90 minute comedy encased in this 122 minute feature. The self-indulgent, lackadaisical nature of the storytelling means that the movie sacrifices a great deal of narrative momentum in pursuit of each tangent and improvisation. Regardless, "Trainwreck" proves exceptionally entertaining when parodying the toxic culture of men's magazines or pointing out the illogic in the modern dating scene.

  • josé neves's rating of the film Trainwreck

This actress is a North-American sociological phenomenon, because she's unknown to me and I'm not interested in seeing her more often. This filmmaker is the darling of some French critics who thus ingloriously strives to maintain the glorious tradition of their ancestors. This film is non-existent except as a demonstration of how the romantic comedy is dead and how worse it gets with acts like this.

  • smndvdcl's rating of the film Trainwreck

Schumer effectively launches herself through the Apatow aperture of disaffected rom-com drama. Equal to 'Knocked Up' and 'This is 40' for an edge that goes beyond formulaic representations of men and women in relational conundrums. Apatow could be more subversive, but there are enough acerbic elements to neutralise the more mawkish moments.
