In 1949 in rural New Zealand Wes and his partner Cyril are two con men who run a horse-racing scam and take advantage of bookies. After arriving in Tainuia Junction, a small town already rife with illegal gambling, corruption and eccentricity, they become involved in a host of criminal activities.
