Exploiting (and contributing to) the Mickey Rourke craze at the time, filming him as a cuddly humanoid puppy so to speak, Lyne's venture into a Wall Street-SoHo iconic NY mythology capitalizes on the worst type of girly reflexes and in unashamedly sexist manner brings to frontstage a facile fusion between the male and the camera stripping gaze on the female body. If you want to know the exact precise reason why Siskel and Ebert are full of guano, look no further. They said that before the director's cut, it wasn't a good movie, and after the director's cut it was pretty great. It's a soft-core porno movie with big name actors. The changes meant nothing.
Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger have explosive chemistry in this insanely erotic film from the master of restrained sleaze, Adrian Lyne. But now everthing has change, porn is everywere and a movie like this doesn't count anymore.
The plot is interesting in the first part but then it gets super repetitive. In the end nothing happened, just some teasing, rough stuff and sex games.
Un film qui se veut très audacieux et qui attendit un an avant d'être exploité en Europe. La bande son devrait comporter des titres à succès de Brian Ferry, de John Taylor et d'Eurythmics. Nous en sommes fort aise... www.cinefiches.com
