Our take

In the early ‘00s, international audiences couldn’t get enough of the J-horror wave. Genre maestro Kim Jee-woon showed that South Korea could give Japan a run for its money in the supernatural stakes with this superlative chiller, riffing on Rebecca and The Shining for a bloodcurdling tour de force.
