A missed opportunity for sure. The premise and set-up is soooo good it is hard to believe how badly the showrunners handled the material. It starts out great with good characters and genuine intrigue but like most shows drags things out to fill the ordered set of episodes instead of wrapping things up while there still are ideas to work with. It all falls apart about halfway and plummets with a real bad non-ending.
Decent but too little too late. How do you take what could be the ultimate horror saga, and come out with a turgid humorless drama with zero thrills? Great cast doing their best, and some fun ideas and world building but it doesn't have the teeth that all the best King stories have. I enjoyed playing spot the references, but it left me wanting more. Hopefully season 2 can redeem itself with a more active Misery plot.
